When I got the freedom to watch movies (read when I went to college), I too went into a movie watching spree. This included watching four movies in a day !

Interesting.

I want to share with you some similar experience. When I passed out my Class-X Board exam (Bihar Board) in 1982 from Zila School- Chapra, I went to Patna to see the Gandhi Setu Bridge, the longest road bridge of the world, connecting Hajipur & Patna.

There I watched 3 movies in a row in a single day. Incredible stuff when now I looked back at this feat. Movies were ‘Bemisal’, ‘Kalia’ and ‘Desprem’(This I am not sure !!).

Afterwards, during that period I visited Katihaar, Kishanganj and Dushmal and other places which are now submerged under Kosi flood.
My Muasa ji was posted there.

I remember, along with my cousins Shambhu (now in Maruti in Delhi) and Gopal ( a practicing Doctor in Ballia) I covered around 50 km of distance through boat, rickshaw and buses to see a Jitendra & Jayaprada Movie – ‘Pyasa Sawan’. It was total paisa vasool.

Now I do not watch movie at all.

But Your article forced me to travel down the memory lane.

Quite an Interesting piece..gr8 reading and nostalgic tyrst with Bollywood of late 70′s..I have watched all the Bachan flicks mentioned..I think Kala Pathar is Yash Chopra movie and was of the impression that it was a super duper hit..may be in the re run…Good One Santosh !

I am really awe-struck by your ability to retrieve such old memoirs and render them at such meticulous details… I am sure you have jogged most of our memories (I for one was a similar hindi movie maniac – especially the 70s euphoria)in re-living the movie craze of yester-years when the vehicles of entertainment were limited and watching a movie in theatre was a stimulating experience and if it turned out to be a first day first show then it would be a distinction for the movie-buff; something he could take pride in and boast off with his compatriots…
